SAVE THE PLANET, SHOP ELIXIR

Even though buying our products is a great way to help the environment, there are also so many other things that you can do or change in your own life. Even making a few changes can make a huge difference to the world around you!

HOME

  • Save electricity by using energy-efficient light bulbs, turning off appliances you’re not using and lowering air conditioning or central heating when necessary.

  • Save water by shower instead of having a bath.

  • Paint your walls a pale colour to make the most of natural light instead of artificial lights.

  • Invest in solar panels and use electricity mostly in the day rather than at night to make good use of them.

  • Clean the back of your fridge. Dusty coils can increase energy consumption by 30%.

  • Use a clothes line instead of a tumble dryer.

  • Garden manually rather than using a hose pipe, or collect your own water by keeping water butts in your garden.

REUSE AND RECYCLE

  • Find creative ways of reusing products, for example reusing a jam jar as a candle holder.

  • Put your shopping in reusable bags instead of plastic ones.

  • Recycle newspapers.

  • Use Tupperware rather than plastic sandwich bags.

  • Donate leftover paint to community projects.

  • Use rechargeable batteries and matches instead of lighters.

  • Borrow or buy locally or second hand and donate old clothes to charity shops.

  • Wrap gifts in fabric and tie with ribbon instead of paper and sticky tape.

TRAVEL

  • Try to walk or cycle whenever you can.

  • For long distance travel, buses and trains are better than planes.

  • Share your journey with a friend or coworker and try carpooling.

  • Instead of doing your shopping and dry cleaning separately, try and do all your errands in one trip.

  • Try and avoid wildlife attractions that involve unnatural interactions like feeding and petting, instead observe them from a distance in their natural habitat.

  • Use a travel mug instead of buying your drinks in single-use containers.

  • Try keeping tickets on your phone instead of printing them.

MONEY

  • Use your purchasing power to support environmentally friendly companies.

  • Find ways to donate to environmental charities.

FOOD

  • If you can, reduce the amount of meat and dairy in your diet.

  • Try eating your leftover food instead of throwing it away.

  • Find new recipes that use up your leftover ingredients.

  • Start an allotment and grow your own food.
